Mystery Monday (4/2/12)

Posted on 04/02/2012 by Lance Roper in Mystery Monday

Welcome back to another Mystery Monday contest! Every Monday, we’re going to post a photo from our collection and invite anyone to guess its location. The first person to correctly identify the location will win a prize. To start the year, we’ll be giving the winner a $50 gift certificate towards a framed photograph.

Here are the guidelines for the contest:

  • If you can correctly identify the photo with a link to Google Maps showing where it is, or should be, you win! Leave a comment here on the blog or on our Facebook Page.
  • Whoever identifies the photograph and posts a link to its correct location first, wins!
  • This week’s winner will receive a $50 coupon for any framed print, or simple bragging rights! Whichever you prefer!
  • In order to win, the photo’s location must be correctly identified by this Friday at 5:30PM EST.

If you know of anyone else who would enjoy this blog (or perhaps someone who would be a great competitor,) please send them here!

Let the games begin!

Cool train station. At first I thought this might be the train station at Valley Forge National Park (PA); but the tracks don't look right.

I think this photo may have been taken in early spring, because it looks like a forsythia bush is in bloom (on the other side of the drive from the bell), whereas all the other trees are still bare.I'm also wondering if there is a small patch of snow (i.e. the last remnant of snow piled when clearing the parking lot) on the left edge of the parking lot, which might also be the source of the water partially hidden by the tree in the middle of the left parking area.

Anyway, this is somewhere with distinct seasons, that gets warm enough in the summer to justify the window air conditioners.

The station wagon could be 70s or early 80s.

It looks like there might be a sign under the bay window, but I can't quite make it out. Looks like it might be a three-letter abbreviation for the station, rather than a full name.

I think the station wagon is a mid to late 60"s early 70's ChevMailbu or Olds Cutlass. Coult this staion be at a National Park?

Thank you for participating! The photo is from 1987, so it's probably a late 70's station wagon. Also, I don't think (or Wikipedia hasn't shown me) that there is a national park near this station. This from an area that experiences the four seasons.

It's been a while since I've actually geolocated a Mystery Monday!

This is the former Millis train station in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. For a 2011 photo from ground level, see http://www.flickr.com/photos/54690684...

As seen in that photo, the sign under the window says MILLIS. According to the caption for the flickr photo, the station was built in 1885, and had passenger service until 1967. It now houses municipal offices for the town of Millis.
