Duane Wollbrink homestead. My grandparents

Hi Dan! Thanks for sharing your connection to the Duane Wollbrink homestead photo from 1967. We'd love to hear more about your memories or any stories you might have from growing up in Hancock County. Can you recall any changes to the area since then? Also, were there any specific farming activities your grandparents engaged in on the property?

I have several memories. Many changes have been made. Many memories of the original house and buildings.. My mother grew up there. I spent fall afternoons with my great grandfather under the big walnut tree in the front yard picking up walnuts and cleaning walnuts with him Grandma had a huge garden and did a lot of canning. Behind the house was a summer kitchen, that had a bell (which I have today). The bell was used to send notice to grandpa and others of meal time, or other alarms.. (no cell phones or radios back in the late 60s). Phone was still party line. Dog use to guard the pen in front of the large barn while grandpa did chores. Was fun to watch.. not cattle or hogs got out the open gate while the dog watched guard. If you have other pictures from different dates, I would be happy to review as well. I am trying to talk my mom and my sisters into purchasing the photo. We will see.. Thanks
