The Knodells lived here in the 1930s to 60s. The Gwaltneys lived hete from 1964 to 2014 when they sold it to the College of Lake County. Russ Gwaltney donated to the college over 25 acres of the contingent property to get the college started and sdditional property later. This was the final piece CLC needed to get access to highway 45.
Ot was built in 1852 by Jared Gage, brother of John Gage.Jared Gage did 3 tours of duty in the civil was. He was in many important battles including Manassess. He was csptured and imprisoned st Andersonville.He was liberated from there at the end of the war. He returned home to Gages Lake in poor health from starvation and wounds. He died 2 years later, unable to recover his health.
Jared Gage was the brother of John Gage. Jared D. Gage was his son that fought in the Civil War. Jared, his brother, owned a large chunk of land at Gages Lake.
