The tavern on the left is located at 24110 IL-60 on the north side of Rte. 60. The flat top building and the building in front of it still exist. The barn along the road and the building behind it no longer exist. The house beyond the flat top building is located at 24087 IL-60 and still exists today. These building are just east of N. Manor Hill Rd.
The farm property was owned by William John Amann (1879-1923) and Anna Marie (Freund) Amann (1884-1919). William was the son of John Amann (1841-1920) and Barbara (Behm) Amann (1844-1913). His parents had their farm property located west of William. John arrived from Bavaria in 1865 purchasing land in Fremont Township. In 1919, William who had already owned 80 acres, purchased 88 acres and his brother, Frank, 80 acres from their father John. After his death in 1923 at the age of 43, William's 168 acres was sold to Joseph Hertel.
William John Amann was my grandfather and Anna Marie Freund my grandmother. Their house was located just to the left of this photograph, and still stands, while all the farm buildings are gone. My father was born here in 1914.
