The property was located in Section 29 of Fremont Township. According to the 1861 plat map, the property was owned by H. Wells consisting of 100 acres. According to the 1873 plat map, the property was owned by Henry Wells consisting of 120 acres. (80 acres north of Rte. 176; 20 acres south of Rte. 176 in addition to 20 acres adjoining in Section 28). According to the 1907 plat map, the property was owned by "Chris. Hapke" (Christian Hapke) consisting of the same 120 acres.

The farm land became the Four Winds Golf Course at 23110 W. Hwy. 176, Mundelein, IL. (between Mundelein and Wauconda) The 18-hole course opened in 1966 with 6,482 yards of golf, par 72 designed by Herman Schwinge. The course was closed in 2007 and purchased by the Lake Country Forest Preserve District.

The 146 acre addition of the golf course property by the LCFPD will expand the bordering Lakewood Forest Preserve to 2,748 acres. The site now included a network of paths for biking and hiking, allowing for picnics and fishing.
