This was the Browntown one-room schoolhouse. The school operated into the late-1940s and possibly early 1950s. After the school ceased operations, multiple attempts were made to sell the school. Notices appeared in the Marengo Beacon/Republican-News in 1951 and 1952 for public auctions of the building. Eventually the building did sell, as the 1955 Annual Report of Consolidated School District No. 8 showed the district receiving $2,457.43 for the building sometime between 7/1/1954 and 6/30/1955.
