I grew up in this house and my dad, Charlie Coulter, and his wife still live there. I'm not sure who exactly built it, possibly Noble's, but prior to my parents moving in, it was my dad's Aunt Mabel and her husband Russell Retherford's place. My mom told me that they tore down the barn there in the middle of the pasture when they moved in in 1973. In 1976, the year I was born, my parents built on a new kitchen there where the tree to the right of the house is. I have great memories playing in all of the old out buildings and the barn pictured in the back. And the timber on the bluff was always fun to explore. Thank you for sharing these!

My brother just reminded me that the foundation fill of the barn that was torn down was made up of clam shells with button holes cut out of them. I remember finding them all over the pasture and in the ice house foundation as well. I'm assuming they must have come from Muscatine, IA and the button factory over there, possibly? Not exactly sure though.

Jayne, more than likely the button hole shells would have come from New Boston or Keithsburg since there were also button factories there.
