This was the original Eleroy School, at the corner of Mound Road and U.S. 20. The school operated most likely through the 1956-57 school year, after which it was replaced by a newer, larger K-5 grade school at 119 Bridge Street in Eleroy (part of the Lena school district). On March 29, 1958 the one-room schoolhouse was sold at public auction. George Hull was the winning bidder, at $1,800. Mr. Hull also purchased the Rees School property on the same day.
A photo of the school as it was in 1918 is archived on the Lena-Winslow school district website:

These photos originated from a 1918-19 Stephenson County school directory. It contained photos of each school, along with the names of teachers and school board members.
The "Clark" on the roadside billboard appears to be William Clark, a Democrat who was running for re-election in 1964 as Illinois Attorney General (he won). The photo bears resemblance to the same one in the William G. Clark biography on the Illinois Courts website (http://www.illinoiscourts.gov/supreme...).
