Lena-Winslow Schools K-1 elementary in Waddams Grove.

Waddams Grove School was built in 1957 and was in use until approximately 1966. A nearly identical school was built the same year in Eleroy. The Waddams school opened for classes in April 1958 and included grades 1-6. At its peak, enrollment was about 50 children.

The Waddams school was sold at auction on June 12, 1971 to Melvin Troxell for $12,550 (Freeport Journal-Standard 6/14/1971). The school district took a bit of a loss on the sale, as the building was constructed for a cost of $60,000.

Mr. Troxell said he planned to remodel the building and move in his family of 9. At the time of the sale, the building had two classrooms, and small gymnasium and kitchen area. For about 5 years prior to the sale, it had only been used for storage purposes.

The Waddams School building is still used as a residence, and the identical building in Eleroy followed suit many years later.
