The garage was Eggert School. This was one of many one-room schoolhouses which became part of the Dakota school district. In April 1957, the school was wrapping up its last year of operation and voters were asked to decide if the school building should be sold. During the previous school year, Eggert School housed 5th through 8th grades, while the neighboring Felts School handled 1st through 4th grades (Freeport Journal-Standard, August 12, 1955). The Journal-Standard reported an enrollment of 19 students in its final school year of 1956-57.
