House on corner of 23 and E South Ave
This is a landmark house on Koontz Lake. The house was built by Samuel Koontz Jr (son of Samuel Koontz Sr who created Koontz Lake by damming up the outlet of Woodsworth Lake for his sawmill). The house was used as a hotel in the early 20th century and Samuel Jr.’s daughter, Laura Hornbeck lived in the house until her death in the mid 1960s. The house was turned into Koontz House bed and breakfast in the mid 1980s to mid 90s by Leslie and Janet Davison. The house still looks the same in 2022, but State road 23 was re-routed in 2011 to re-build the dam. Much of the curve in the road is now a public fishing pier.
