Carroll Barrows Farm/ RT1 Presque Isle rd, Westfield Maine

The Barrows Place, so-called by neighbors when he owned it, and after he and his wife moved away, was located on the Houlton Road/Route 1, north of the Presque Isle Road/Route 1, Carroll Sumner Barrows was born 2 Sep 1891 in Irasburg, Orleans County, Vermont. He died 4 Oct 1970 in Riverside, Riverside County, California. He married Dora Augusta Day on 16 Jun 1914 Westfield, Aroostook County, Maine. She was born 6 Jul 1889 in Westfield and died 30 May 1982 at Grants Pass, Josephine County, Oregon. The house and farm were originally owned by Dora's parents, Franklin Rensallear "Frank" Day born 29 Jun 1849 China, Kennebec County, Maine, who died 6 Oct 1920 in Caribou, Aroostook County, Maine and Emma Jane "Janie" Lawrence, born 25 Jun 1855 Kentville (Horton's Corner until 1826), Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada. She died 17 Oct 1915 Westfield, Aroostook County, Maine. Emma was Murray Ward Lawrence Sr's aunt. She and Frank Day raised their nine children on this farm containing abt. 80 acres. Their daughter Dora and her husband Carroll Barrows sold the farm to Dora's 1st cousin, Murray Ward Lawrence (1903-1985) in the 1920s (before 1 June 1930. He married Alice Amelia Hallett (1906-1974). The southern border on the west side of Route 1 bordered the Lawrence Family Farm and the farm on the northern border was originally owned by Cyrus Chase (1836-1924), later owned by his grandson Eugene W. "Gene" Chase (1894–1974). The old barn blew down in a near hurricane in winds 69 mph winds in the month of December in the early 2000s. The only remaining building was the farmhouse, which burned to the ground late one night in early July 2008. The entire Barrows place was sold by one of Murray's sons to the Grass Brothers in 2022, who bought that and all but a few acres of frontage of the original Lawrence Family Farm on the west side of the road.
