This was my grandparents, Ernest and Evelyn Harris, farm in Burlington Maine
This photo could have been taken almost any wear in central or northern Maine. I am from Aroostook County.
Only the house, 2 big barns and the small garage near the road remain today. Evelyn sold fresh milk, cream and hand churned butter here well into her late 80s. This was a working farm, Ernest raised potatoes, sugar beets and corn. He also sold International grains. He had lumber camps in the area and also raised work horses. I am a grandson of Ernest and Evelyn.
This was the farm of my husband's grandparents, Ernest and Evelyn Harris. I never saw it looking exactly like this as the wagon shed was gone when I started dating my husband
I grew up in Burlington and also raised our daughters here. The last year that Evelyn had her cows and made butter I took our young daughters to watch the process from milking the cow to making butter. It was so fascinating for them, now in their 30's they still have very fond memories of that day.
MY grandparents. Worked many days on this farm and there were never any sugar beets raised nor did grampa ever raise horses. And only the cow barn on the right still stands. The wagon shed is also gone as well as the chicken house across the road.
My Grandparents Farm. Grandpa was always proud of his workhorses, which were used to work in the woods. A few years before he passed away the grew sugar beets for the sugar plant in Easton. The house and cow barn are all that is left.
