Former Harmony Fire Department

In the Summer of 1963, while a Junior in HHS, I worked at the shoe shop (Sandler), I was the "cripple girl", a great job that took me all over the shop interacting with all of the different departments. I worked for Maxine Leavitt Alton, who I just loved!!! Dan Cotta was the boss of the stitching room and he was always so nice to me. It seemed like everyone in town worked at the shop at that time. The fire whistle blew everyday at noon and the shop would clear out. When it blew for an actual fire a lot of the guys would go and dear Grace Downs would have a tear in her eye and would say a little prayer. It's so funny the things we remember. Great memories!!!
