This is the Curtis Homestead that stood on the Corner where the Palmyra Post Office is now located.

The building burnt in the early 90's.

Palmyra is halfway point between Bangor and Norridgewock on the Stage Coach Road and the County Road. Lancey's Tavern provided meals, drink and rooms for the travelers. They also provided a place for animals to be sheltered during the night. Samuel Lancey came to this country from Normandy with the Marque Lafayette and joined the Revolutionary War 1775 - 1783. Samuel and wife Elizabeth [Pierce] Lancey are buried in the Village Cemetery.
