Roads in this area have been modified. The configuration shown in the photo above (in addition to the buildings) is clearly visible in Historic Aerials' imagery (1972).
The curve once carried US-27 traffic. This place was a much larger operation back then. The little buildings in the photograph were tourist cabins. The road was greatly improved in the 1960s. MDOT removed the curve and abandoned their right-of way easements years later.
This brought back memories of the St. Johns backups on weekends. My 'secret shortcut' was through Maple Rapids. Now, I miss the many stops such as Beck's Farm Market and Herbruck's Cheese Shop.
