This was the homestead of my grandparents Lawrence and Ruth Cain. The property was 60 acres when they bought it around 1931. The old 2 story by the maple trees was their house. My mom grew up in that house. After my mom and dad got married they put in a single wide trailer east of the old house and we lived their when I was born for about 9 years. They bought the double wide that’s in the center of picture in 1972, I lived in that house til 1995 when I moved to Traverse City. My brother fixed up my grandparents old house and lived in it til 1997 then he put in a new single wide to the north of the old house ( he had to cut down the 3 white pines in center of picture). My grandpa built the barn around 1933 or 43. My grandparents had deeded the 2 acres at top of picture to my uncle and my aunt got 40 acres to north, my mom got the 18 acres the houses were on. When my aunt passed in 1994 we sold her 40 acres, my mom sold 10 of her 18 on the east side around 1998. After my mom passed, my cousin deeded his 2 acres back to me and my brother and we sold the property in 2012. It’s on its 2nd owner now since then.
