The Great Oaks development on Walton Rd/University Drive in Rochester. Following the passing of Howard McGregor Jr. who owned National Twist Drill and Tool Company as well as large land holdings (later donated to Crittenton Hospital which was built on the land as well as Rochester Community Schools which built Rochester High School across Livernois). His property aLos included a farm that raised Black Angus cattle that extended west along Walton from just west of Ludlow Street to Livernois and along Livernois north from Walton to Tienken Road. That farm was sold and, as presented in this image, was developed into a multi-use project that included apartments (lower portion), single family homes, a portion of which is shown in the lower right, a golf course (upper center and right), and condos facing the golf course (upper left). Also shown in the center left of the image is Mr. McGregor’s home (the large white structure) which was used as the clubhouse for the Great Oaks Country Club. That structure was later torn down and replaced with the current clubhouse. The original drive to that home can still be seen In between the trees that line it leading u to the house, although to accommodate the increased traffic two lanes were built that flank those rows of trees.
