This is St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on 50th Avenue in Claybanks. Four acres of land was donated by my great great grandfather John and Susanna (Eilers) Miller in the mid 1880s. The church was built by two of his sons and opened around 1886. Before that, five or six families had Mass in their homes whenever a priest was available. Side altars were purchased in 1909 and 1911. The stain glass windows were purchased in 1919. My mother Lois (Bruening) Mills remembers when the basement was put in under the building. The sand was hauled away by horse and wagon. She also remembers when electricity came through. The cemetery was expanded in 1975; that is the sandy area visible behind the church. I am the fifth generation in the Miller line. We celebrated 125 years in 2011. Currently, St. John's is open only during the summer months, Mass is 8:30 AM. Come join us, and experience a beautiful little country church. We'd love to have you. :)

I grew up just north of there on a farm my family bought from Martin Miller and his wife. Is there a connection to St Johns and the Miller family connected to the church?
