We purchased this property in 1999. There are now only 3 houses left and the large building in the rear of the picture. It used to be a Marl Mine in 1901.
Hecla Portland Cement Co. mined the marl, in the first few years of the 20th century.
Coal was brought in by the trainload, on tracks that went toward Lake George. The coal was used in the process of converting marl into fertilizer, which was hauled to the M.C.R.R. mainline at Loranger.
