My grandfather John Henry Hoeft was born here 30Jan 1897 to John & Marguerta (Meyer) Hoeft. Sadly, that same year his father was killed when a train hit his team and wagon on Jackson Street in Red Wing, MN on April 20, 1897. At the age of 31 Marguerta became a widow with 5 young children ages 8 and younger. The young couple had a seven-year land contract with Torsten & Mary Bjorngaard. She knew final payment with taxes were due at the end of the year. Marguerta was a strong pioneer woman and held the family together. She signed the Warranty Deed on December 30, 1897 and obtained ownership of the for the rest of her life. On July 19, 1899 she weds Cord Wichern. Today the barn still stands, the house has been replaced.
