This is our farm where my pop grew up. The cob house still exists. The farm at the top is where Ted Newell lived.
Hi Myron! It's fascinating to hear that you have a personal connection to this aerial photo of Nobles County, MN. We'd love to learn more about your family's history on the farm. Did you live there as well? Could you tell us more about the cob house? Also, we're curious about the type of farming your family did. We appreciate any additional details you can share about your time growing up in Nobles County.
I never lived there. My uncle Olen lived in the double garage for maybe a year around 1978/9. The cob house had a cistern in the basement and cobs and sometimes coal for heating the cook stove. The house never had phone or electric service. In 1967 my folks left me and drove home 2 miles and returned in our 58 Chevy DelRay. Grandma got a blanket using a kerosene lamp. I was 4.5yo. Usually the crop was oats and corn, never beans. Horses were often used but they had tractors too.
