THE RAND HOUSE
Address: 506 Territorial Road, Monticello, MN.
The house was built in 1884 and has 30 rooms.
The land which the house sits on was donated by Tobias Gilmore Mealey. (Who owned the house behind the house).
This house (which is in the photo) was the house of Rufus R Rand Sr and his wife Susan Mealey (Tobias' daughter). Rufus Rand was the Vice-President of the Minneapolis Gas and Light Company. Rufus and Susan's wedding occurred at this house and Rufus built the house for the wedding.
The Rand house has been used and owned by many different people.
In 1942, it was used by the Gilder Pilot Trainig School for the officers quarters. After that is was used as a nursing home and a funeral home. (pre 1970). Recently it has been used as a private residence and a bed and breakfast.
The Carriage Barn (which was originally with the house) is now a private residence. (Converted to private residence in 1952.) https://vintageaerial.com/photos/minn... shows the carriage barn.
