This is my family’s farm. My uncle still lives here and runs the operation, which includes land originally settled by my German immigrant great-great-great-grandfather in 1878. He and his siblings, including my father, grew up at a much older (1890s) homestead a quarter mile up the road; this homestead was built in the late 1960s. In the 2000s, a tornado destroyed several of the outbuildings, including the large barn. The house, implement shed, and one chicken house remain.
