My daddy built this house in the mid 60s'. Several things has changed in the yard. A place I will always call home. Good to see it as of yesterday years.

Hi Pauline,
It's always wonderful to hear stories about people's homes. Since the photo was taken in 1986, I'm interested to know how much has changed since then. Do you remember any additional details about the yard or surrounding area that might help jog your memory? As someone who grew up in Greene County, are there any stories or memories you have that stand out?

Daddy planted two pecans trees in the front yard that is very big now. The gas pump in the yard has been removed. The small building was a smoke house where he cured hams etc. You took this pic just before he retired in 1979. My mother passes in 1978 and he didn't even live there a yr after. So I do question the date of 1986 because he had long moved from here. He was the only farmer that I'm aware that occupied the dwelling. I remember the boad and truck to the left of the drive way. Thats mu daddy's truck in front of the car port. My mama had a Mustang she kept under the carport. Daddy sold it after she dies. He would not have park in that location because the car is gone and he hated moving vehicles. So I would dare say it was his last summer farming which would have been 1979.

He never kept the yard junky. All equipment stated at a farm house further down the road so I'm assuming after he retired he brought this equipment home to sell since he had given up the farm.

To the right was my aunt and uncles house. They built first then my daddy. To the left of daddy's house was a neighbor George Rogers. Good people. Later on his son built next to him. it was just a good little neighborhood. The man that lives in daddy's house told my daughter he had never seen a house built with so much wood. He said the spacing was not spaced far apart which mad the house very sturdy.

With the logo it's hard to see some of the details. Back in the mid 60s' he had it built for a little over $12,500. I have laughed when I saw it up for sale one time for over $75,000. Don't know if it was more or less the person got it for. Oh well. I have rambled way to much. Just glad I found this. Brough back a flood of memories. :)
