This is the old Captain Willie's Restaurant on Highway 421 in Clinton, NC. It changed names later in the years (such as Christopher's and Skipper's). However, all of the buildings were demolished between 2013 and 2016. It's nothing but an empty field now. Captain Willie's was quite a place to go to and eat. I ate there many times during 1988 and up to like 2003 or so. Went there with many family members for birthday dinners, etc. The buffet was good and it had an entire hog on the buffet (like a pig picking). It's been greatly missed.
Willie Coward was mother's oldest brother I used to eat breakfast at one of his other restaurants when
I traveled through Clinton. You could get two eggs bacon or sausage toast or biscuit and if I remember
correctly even a cup of coffee for $1.99, those were the days!
I am from Southport, NC. While attending NCSU from 1990-1995, Captain Willie's was a frequent stop on my trips to and from home, or sometimes after a night of partying me and my college buddies would pile in the car and head there for a greasy meal. Sometimes I would meet my mother there on the weekend since it was similar distances for both of us to drive. Even after graduating, I would still drive there from Raleigh with friends and family. Lots of restaurants had smoking sections, but at Captain Willies, they had a non-smoker section in a small room near the door, the rest of the restaurant was the smoking section. What an epic restaurant.
