I grew up (and still live) here! This house is as old as Alger itself and is awesome. The siding was changed from lemon yellow with red shutters to a much more tame brown and green shutters. The only tree remaining from this photograph is the large oak in the front yard, many saplings have grown since. Now there is a large walnut, 3 conifers, and an apple tree in the backyard. 2 of those trees that produce those "helicopter" seed pods also grow along the driveway.

Hi there! Thank you so much for sharing your memories of the property in Hardin County, OH. It sounds like the house has undergone quite a transformation over the years! We'd love to hear more about your experiences growing up in that area. What are some other standout features or changes that you remember from that time period? Your insight adds so much to the story behind our vintage photos.

I wouldn't trade the place for anything! It's a quiet place just west of the Scioto Marsh, so I used to get a good view of the now rare muck storms to the east. My parents acquired it in 1996 shortly after the railroad tracks nearby were removed. It sits between the town of Alger and the Hardin/Allen County line. A standout change from my life was growing up with retro bright red carpeting and an iconic pink bathroom. The bathtub, shower, the checkered wallpaper, everything was truly pink. That has since been replaced but I'll never forget. There has been very little change in the entire photo roll of this area, and I love it. There also was a large barn behind the house where that lone tree sits in the field. Looking at historic satellite imagery, it appears to have been taken down in the 70s. It would've been the only farm on CR92, barring a beautiful large apple orchard to the west.
