this is the Centerfield Friends church in Centerfield on the corner of Cope Rd.

I did grow up here. I attended this Church back in 1941 I actually walked a mile to attend.
My Father's Funeral Service was held within the Wood Frame part of this Church Back in 1943. There is truly quite a History with this Church. How the Friends(Quakers) acquired and Purchased it and AS TO WHAT DONIMATION PREVIOUSLY OWNED IThas been numerous Changes and a Brick addition has been added. Which now is used for Sunday School and Church services. Although the frame original Church is intact. There is much that can be said for this Centerfield Friends Church.

My parents bought the big old church building, built in 1870, next door to this Centerfield Friends Church. This was my first home. It was beautiful the way Mom and Dad fixed it up. My older sister and I would walk across our garden and go to this Friends church every Sunday Morning from the time I was three and she was five. This is the first place I ever sang! My Mom belonged to the Missionary Society there also. I learned to tie shoes at a meeting at Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stoops house. Tied the "old lady comfort" shoes that belonged to two elderly ladies...problem, they were tied together when I finished. I remember Alton Smith holding me up to the bell rope and letting me ring the church bell for service! Ilo Thompson, Ida Smack, the Jones family (Diane), Mrs. Isabelle Rose, Jenny and Jack Elkins, Austa Burgess's store, Clarence and Viola Erskin, The Stapelton family- Caleb and Marie, Cleda, Virgie, Jay, Jewel, Dorothy, Jimmy. Tommy and Allen Coleman -parents. Beaulah and Tom. The Puckett family, Audrea and Morey, Grandma Puckett across the road. The Parins-Lucille and Ed. Geneva Hamilton (and I think Bill). The Bartley's. This has all been off the top of my head.
We left when I was 7 years old.At 71 years I'm not sure what I had for breakfast! I'm sure I've left some out....Sorry, I've loved this precious Church and the Friendly Village of Centerfield forever.
