This home locate on St Rt 590 1/4 mile north of St Rt 105 built in 1934. I was born in the southwest bedroom 8/29/1935 and lived there my first 22 years. I helped my dad farm the land and later with my cousin until it was sold in 2003. The metal building replaced the large barn that burned in 1953. The remaining buildings burned in 1988.
This is the house my Grandfather Corneal Dutch Overmyer built. It is a really neat house plan and I loved playing hide in seek when I was little. The car in the photo under the tree was a 1966 Pontiac GTO and was my dad Darwin Overmyer’s car. Wish we still had it! Of courses the landscape changed by the time I was born. They no longer had farm animals, other than chickens.
Hi there! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful memory of your grandfather's house in Ottawa County. It sounds like you had a lot of fun playing hide and seek there. Could you tell us more about the landscape during that time? We're curious to know what kind of farming your family had on the property back then. Feel free to share any other memories you have as well!
