Enos Coon purchased the William Hott farm at public auction on September 20, 1893. Enos' grandson, George Coon and his wife Burdell raised their family on the farm. Around 1957 they built Coon's Farm Market to the east of the house where they sold their homegrown fruits and vegetables. They were well known for their melons and squash. George and his brother Frank Coon were champion squash and pumpkin growers at the Ohio State Fair and the Circleville Pumpkin Show. The farm that has been in the Coon family since 1893 has not changed much. The farm market is no longer in operation.
Note: I am George's daughter. I was looking for Frank Coon's farm at 13775 Winchester Rd. in Walnut Twp., Pickaway County, Ohio and did not find it. Do you have it? If so I will comment on it. Thanks.
This picture is in Pickaway County, Ohio. It is not in Pike County. It is Harrison Twp., Pickaway County, Ohio.
