Licking Presbyterian Church and cemetery, Curllsville, PA.

The congregation was formed in 1803/1804 with the Rev. Mr. McGarrah serving as the first pastor. A meeting house made of 25' logs and clapboard roof was erected in 1808. The building was also used for a school and eventually after a larger meeting house was built, it was then used for a parsonage for the pastor and his family.

Stump Creek had been the previous and original name. By 1808, the total number of the congregation was 33, and a church building was erected, which was also used for a school, and finally, became a parsonage. A second log structure with doubled dimensions was built in 1822. These two log meetinghouses were located a few feet southwest of the location of the present church building. During the ministry of the REV. JOHN CORE, in 1848, the first frame worship center was built. The third pastor to the congregation was REV. JOSEPH MATEER, who began his Curllsville ministry in 1854. During his tenure at the local church, he also served as an Army chaplain in the Civil War. In 1875, the Rev. DR. JAMES McCURDY became the pastor. For 30 years, he ministered to the Licking congregation. He compiled the first documents of the church in 1895. Two of his daughters, MARTHA (McCURDY) MORGAN and MAUDE (McCURDY) CURLL, helped compile the first published history of the church in honor of the congregation's 125th anniversary celebration in 1928. HARRY C. CRAIG, chorister and organist, also led the event. Declining membership caused the congregation to dissolve in the late 1990s.
