Near Wakonda. South Dakota. This is where I was born and raised. Sadly, most of the buildings and trees are gone now. The barn is still standing strong!

Hi Brenda! It's great to hear that you have a personal connection to this aerial photo near Wakonda. It must have been quite a change to see the buildings and trees disappear over time. Did you have any favorite memories growing up in Clay County? We'd love to hear more about your experiences and what the area was like back then. Also, if you don't mind sharing, what kind of farming did you and your family do on the property?

My dad planted several Colorado Blue Spruce trees on the west side of the property after several trees died from Dutch Elm disease. He also added two Morton buildings on the north side of the property after this photo was taken. The town park and swimming pool was right across the road. I swam there every day that they were open. My dad farmed corn, beans, and oats. He was also raised on this farm.
