Jasper Sanville farm on Route 58 in Irasburg, VT

I recall Mr Sanville doing auto or truck repair on one of our vehicles. This farm/auto repair garage was located at the bottom of Lowell Mountain on the Irasburg side as stated above. What a steep hill that was to the west towards Lowell. One particular day stands out. The prior summer had been a poor hay year and we needed to buy hay from a farmer in Irasburg with surplus to sell. We used the team of horses, Prince and Charlie and a hay wagon and off we went, On the return up Lowell Mountain, with a full load of hay, Dad had to occasionally stop the horses to let them rest, due to the steep incline and the weight of the load. In order to do that, I trailed the wagon with a trig or piece of wood sufficient to keep the wagon and horses from rolling in reverse. Then off we would go for another distance until the beautiful horses became winded again.

This is where I grew up on my Grandparents Farm, Jasper and Margaret Sanville. It is now a family compound with my 2 brothers across the road, my niece down the road, my father Maurice Sanville across the road, nephew up the road, Dustin Sanville and Wayne Hart jr owning land across the road and my son Skyler Gray as well. The buildings are now mostly torn down and housing a real estate office and home. The milk house still stands too. So many great memories.
