The home at the bottom was my grandparent’s home. It came into our family in 1885. It’s contents were unceremoniously dumped into a dumpster and the property sold by my uncle when my grandmother passed at age 95 in 2005. I would give anything to have been able to buy the home myself. Sadly, neither myself or my brothers were told when it was sold. There are so many amazing memories and so much unconditional love attached to that home. It was our family’s safe place. A place of love, laughter, and endless amounts of love.
The barn/garage has since been torn down. ☹️

Hi Katherine, thank you for sharing your heartfelt memories of your grandparent's home. It sounds like it held so much love and sentimental value for your family. We're sorry to hear that you weren't able to buy the home yourself. In the 1989 photo, were there any distinct features or landmarks that stood out to you? We would love to hear about one of your favorite memories or traditions that happened at your grandparents home!

Hello!
The whole house holds memories. Holidays were absolutely incredible at my grandparents’ home. At Christmas, we went to midnight mass. Then we went back to my grandparents for a HUGE meal. (Yes! In the middle of the night!) Then we opened gifts that Santa had left while we were in church. Then we walked to our home, which was just to the north about 150 yards. Part of our driveway is in the photo. A few hours of sleep and up for gifts at home. Then back to my grandparents for another HUGE Christmas dinner. These gatherings always had ALL of our aunts, uncles and cousins around. Dozens of people. On New Year’s Eve, our parents always had an “adult” party to go to. So all of us kids stayed at our grandparents. Nothing but games, laughter, eating and fun until the ball dropped. Then, it was hot fudge sundae time! My grandparents bedroom had a window seat with a cupboard underneath. This was where we kids slept! Oh the memories! ❤️❤️❤️
Our swing set still on the backyard hill, next to the lilac bush named George. The little addition on the right hand side was their bedroom, and the window where the seat was. Gosh I really miss them. (Yup. I’m tearing up…..)
