This is the Buckley Farm on the Montieth Rd in Bridgewater. I grew up there, the barn is gone now as well as the addition in the back. There is a new free standing garage where the barn stood.
Eugene Montieth build this place. He was married to my grandfather Ritter sister Alice
I bought this 120 acre farm from my father, Ed Buckley, in 1999 and tore down the barn and the garage in the middle and built a new modern garage and apartment with radiant heat floors, where the barn stood. Restored the old farmhouse which was built around 1875 and was equipped with gas lights and heat, plumbed into the walls during construction. It was the first frame house built on the Montieth Road. Just sold it on July 1, 2021.
The truck on the left was new in 1960 and was a red and white International B-160 with a Red Diamond 304 engine and a 5 speed with an electric two speed rear differential and could haul 52 barrels of potatoes or around 10,500 pounds of potatoes substantially more than the other farm trucks of the day which normally carried 35 to 45 barrels. It was state of the art at the time and purchased in Mars Hill for around $3,000 without a rear body. Roy Carr in Mars Hill built the wooden body.
