Currently Gray’s Automotive, this was Morris Chevrolet for years. The little building next to it was a law office for a while, but it was the very first King George State Bank.

I’m not sure what this was in 1987, I was 10-11 and didn’t pay attention, but it’s the Cobb House Antiques now. It’s also the location of the “Highway Food Store” back in the 30’s or 40’s (probably not this building), which was operated by Mr. Veola Clare.

This house was called Willow Hill. It originally was built by John Arnold in 1756, and was purchased in the late 50’s by a local businessman named Veola Clare. Clare renovated it into this form, but died suddenly in 1968 and the house was passed around for a few decades. In 2004 developers burned it down and built a block of McMansions. The small subdivision is called “Willow Hill.”

This convenience store was originally a Sunoco station. Now it’s a used tire shop. That dirt road behind it, just this side of the fence around the schoolyard, is the original highway before it was rerouted. Some of the pavement (complete with white lines!) still remains.

This house was called Arcadia or Sunnyfield. Sadly it was demolished in order to build the new High School.
