Well, Major Thanks still goes to your family as your father chose a steward of the property that was THE major driver of economic growth in Warren County. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qXCFVrzXuE That's a youtube video of the history of moving the Coney Island amusement park from the banks of the Ohio River to where it is today. A great historical documentary of how that happened for anyone who was lucky enough to grow up in Warren County in the 1960s and enjoy "country life". Sadly, as of the recent news, it appears that the Coney Island pool, which was the largest recirculating pool in the world when constructed, will be lost to all with the properties' sale and development plans announced to end the pools' existence.

The home belonged to the Johnson family I believe. On the same side of the road as the Sharon Nursery, just south of the intersection of Columbia Road and Western Row Road, was a pipe driven into the ground which hit the aquifer leading to the Little Miami River. Back in the 1960s there was no city water running to these warren county properties and homes would collect and use the rainwater in their cisterns. If you ran out you could call and buy potable water that was delivered in a truck or in a pinch you could go to one of these "aquifer pipes" in the ground and get enough water in your own containers until the "water man" delivered to your house. Specifically growing up in 20 Mile Stand, I recall 3 of these aquifer pipes. One was here on Columbia Road (the same triangle of land where it was still exists and sits in front of the Sunoco gas station just south of Kings Island. Another local aquifer pipe was at what was, at the time, an official state of Ohio truck stop on Montgomery Road/US 22/3 just north of the Little Miami River. The truck stop area was very small and not intended for overnight stops, it was only large enough for one or perhaps two trucks to use as a brief respite. This area still exists but it blocked off from any parking and the aquifer pipe has long since been removed. The 3rd pipe was in the same neighborhood just around the corner off "Old 3 C Highway/US 22/3" at the lower end of Foster Maineville Road. It was on the right side of Foster Maineville just before you got to Butterworth Road if you were heading from Foster to Maineville.

Wow. DSW in Governors Point development off Mason Montgomery Road just south of Fields Ertel Road. In the background you can see I-71 running north (closest lanes) and south. Great catch, bkessler!

What a shame they didn't capture the Al-Char public swimming pool right next door. I don't recall if it was still open in 1983 but certainly remember it fondly in the 1960s. It had a fairly unique "high dive" that was "out in the deep end of the pool". You had to swim out to it to then climb the ladder and jump or dive. Great Fun!

I do believe you're right bkessler. I believe the road shown is the on ramp to I-71 and not Fields Ertel Road as I said originally. Thanks!

This property was on Fields Ertel Road at the bend as the road turned sharply right, ran along the pond and then turned sharply left heading west from US 22/3. The home belonged to a local realtor named Nellie Cole. The pond still exists next to the Verizon store on Fields Ertel Road. This particular section of road was well known in the 1960s for the Duck Crossing signs which were posted by the pond and roadway and ducks were constantly present and crossing the road with their new ducklings when they'd hatch.
